Card Player's Club
1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Popular with some of the older members of the Society, is the Card Player's club. These events are held mid-week in the early afternoon and are a great way to spend a relaxed social afternoon in the company of friends.
Choir
A group of singers are one of the culture groups within the Danish Society. Their performances frequently make a cheery start to some of the Danish Society events.
Danish Language Lessons
Lessons in speaking Danish as a second language are available through the Danish Society. This is held in an informal setting and people are tutored at their own pace. Private tutoring is also a possibility.
Danish books and videos are available from the club library for members who want to explore additional media.
Film Evenings
Once a month, usually the third Friday of the month, we are showing a Danish movie with English subtitles. This is a very hyggelig aften for both members and guests where the library is changed into a movie theatre. Enjoy a cup of coffee with biscuits, have a chat and meet old and new friends.
Folk Dancers
7:30 p.m. Second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
This culture group has been a long standing fixture of the Danish Society. Public performances have included the Scandinavian Gathering and even the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
Mothers' Group
The Mothers' Group meets every second Tuesday.
Otherwise known as the Young Mother's Group, this group meets regularly, both in each other's homes and at The Danish House during school holidays. They organise children's activities and get together as a social group with occasional weekend stays at Valhalla.
See here how they describe themselves.
Socials
Smørrebrød evenings, Social Dinners, the Fastelavns picnic, Skt. Hans and a Children's Christmas Party are just a few of the events that members can enjoy. The Danish Society holds many such events throughout the year with something happening most months.
Working Bees
Danish House: Weekend of the fourth Saturday every month.
Valhalla: Weekend of the second Saturday every month (March to November).
The Danish Society has two property assets that require maintenance and this need is covered by regular working bees that are as much a social event as they are a means of providing the upkeep of the properties.
